The dogs shown here who are at risk of euthanization at the San Francisco Animal Care and Control Shelter. The Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluators really liked these dogs and we are looking for foster homes URGENTLY! We believe that getting them out of the shelter and into a loving family will prove that they are very much adoptable! They need urgent foster homes to get them out of the shelter.
Grateful Dogs Rescue has an ongoing and URGENT need for foster homes! To lean more about fostering a dog with Grateful Dogs Rescue click here.
Little Valencia (Leni) is looking for a rehab foster home. She has a fractured femur that can't be operated on and now needs some simple physical therapy to help her body re-engineer that leg while she is still young and growing. What she needs most is daily long slow leash walks, ideally on her own, or with a dog that won't play with her (and therefore cause her to bounce around and not walk slowly.) She walks very well on leash and loves to explore. She would also benefit from swim sessions so if her foster home could bring her to the Rex Center, that would be great. If not, we can help get her there. Leni is a delightful and practically perfect puppy. She has a sweet and endearing personality and is playful as a puppy should be, but settles well for snuggling. She is about 5 months old and a petite 24 lbs. She should stay one the lean side so no spoiling her with too many treats! Leni loves all people and is great with other dogs but would do best in a situation where other dogs in the house aren't going to be willing roughhouse with her too much. She is well on her way to being housebroken and is great in a crate. She really is a very special puppy. She will need to be re-checked in a month by the surgeon that is consulting with us on her case and will hopefully be able to be spayed and offered up for adoption at that point. We are looking for a minimum of a month commitment.

Foster Home Needed for Angus
Angus is currently being boarded and is doing pretty well. He needs a
structured home and then will do fine. He gets nervous with too much activity
and doesn't like being picked up without notice, but other than that he is a
happy, very handsome guy. He weighs 21 pounds and 2 years old. |
| Simba is still at the shelter and is critical. He seems to be a Doxie (miniature dachshund) at about 25 pounds. He almost has a lab head but with doxie-sized legs. He is about 2 years old, and an owner-surrender. He was said to be a backyard dog for his 3 years. The person that saw him come in said that he was real happy and squiggly when his family brought him in, but totally shut down when left behind. He is starting to come out of his shell. The Grateful Dogs Rescue evaluator had him out at an adoption event and he was doing great around the dogs and people. He is already neutered. Grateful Dogs Rescue URGENTLY needs a foster home so that we can save this little guy. | ![]() |
