How You Can Help

Foster Care

We are always in need of new foster homes as the number of dogs we can save is dependent on having a place for them to stay until we can find them a loving home.

Fostering is the first step in giving a dog or puppy a second chance. For many dogs, the process of being kept in an unfamiliar shelter and then going to an unfamiliar home is very traumatic. While in a foster home, they have a chance to feel safe and secure, which will help prepare them for their new forever family.

What is involved in being a foster family?

  • Providing temporary shelter and care for a dog or puppy (typically a few days to one month, although it may take longer for some of our more shy dogs).
  • Transporting the dog/puppy to vet appointments (when you or GDR believes it is necessary).
  • Preparing a short profile of your foster dog. This will help in matching the dog, and also giving the potential adopters an honest description of the pet.
  • Some foster parents bring their dog/puppy to adoption events and talk to potential adopters about their foster dog.

If you are interested in offering a temporary home to a foster dog, please contact us. You can also download and complete the foster application and email it to us.
